Whilst the Elephant London Dry Gin and Elephant Strength Gin share the same fourteen botanicals, including rare African ingredients, to create their distinctive flavour profiles, the latter uses twice the quantity of botanicals and has an ABV of 57%. Elephant Gin features an array of African botanicals including Devil's Claw, Lion's Tail, Buchu and Baobab, and through donating 15% of bottle profits to elephant conversation, Elephant Gin has donated over €1 million to date.
Urban Bar take our design rights and intellectual property very seriously, we do not create items for others to copy. They're perfectly balanced, and the traditional copper pot still distillation method by which they become Elephant Gin brings out their individual flavours excellently. In 2023, marking the 10th anniversary of the brand, Elephant Gin Distillery was opened in the small town of Wittenburg near Hamburg and is home to their Holstein Copper Pot stills as well as offering tours and tastings. Legend has it that the bark of the fever tree was first used by the Spanish in the early 1630s where the healing properties of the tree were discovered.All of this combines to give Elephant Gin the romantic impression that it wouldn't look out of place on board the HMS Beagle. In fact, it's actually helping them survive, as 15% of Elephant Gin's profits go to two African elephant foundations (Big Life and Space for Elephants) to support rangers who protect against poachers and run education projects in local communities. It was essential for spirits on-board to have a high strength so that if they spilt, gunpowder would remain explosive.
Lion's Tail (not literally), Devil's Claw (not literally), Baobab, and African Wormwood are the African rarities in this gin.Our Elephant Gin sundowners bring like-minded people together - and 15% of bottle profits or 2% of revenue (whichever is higher) are donated to elephant conservation projects! The Elephant Strength bottle takes inspiration from its naval origins with navy blue accents and an inviting map of the ocean, conjuring far-flung exploration and the spirit of adventure at the heart of the brand. Each batch of Elephant Gin, comprised of just 800 bottles, is named after an elephant, living or dead, that was known personally to the conservationists. The mouthful is smooth, full and dry, with a freshness of pine, apple and subtle florals, together with orange peel and earthy spice.
Unsure what the future held, we decided to take action and make an impact to help protect the African elephant - even from afar. Our innovative blend of 14 botanicals combines rare African ingredients with fresh, hand-cut apple apples from orchards surrounding our distillery. The taste is complex but strikingly smooth encompassing floral, fruity and spicy flavours which can be enjoyed both straight and in a cocktail.
